Using Water intake calculator
Compare water from drinks and food with the National Academies adult total-water reference.
The population adequate-intake reference is 3.7 L/day for adult men and 2.7 L/day for adult women, including food. It is not an individual requirement or a minimum to force yourself to drink. Needs vary with heat, activity and health. Excludes pregnancy, lactation and prescribed fluid restrictions; do not use the arithmetic gap as a treatment or drinking schedule.
A worked example
For water already consumed in drinks (ml) = 1500, estimated water from food (ml) = 700, adult reference group = Male, age (years) = 30, total water entered (ml) = 2200.
