Analytics and cookie choices

Plausible and Google Analytics measure page visits and tool actions. Tool input, generated passwords, files and participant lists are not included in those events. Hosting may log ordinary requests, including IP addresses and page paths.

Plausible counts every visit without cookies. It may receive browser and device information and a referring page.

Google Analytics is run by Google, which receives the page address, the actions we measure on this site and browser and device information, and sets cookies that tell repeat visits apart. Its advertising features are off.

In the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and whenever we cannot tell which country a visit comes from, Google Analytics loads only after you choose Accept on the bar at the bottom of the page. Decline loads nothing from Google. Your choice is kept in this browser for six months, then the bar asks again.

Elsewhere, Google Analytics loads with each page unless you choose Decline. Cloudflare, which delivers our pages, tells your browser which country the visit comes from.

Wherever you are, Cookie choices at the bottom of any page, or the button below, changes your choice. Decline stops Google Analytics on this site in this browser and deletes its analytics cookies. If analytics was running, the page reloads to apply your choice. Decline holds on every page; outside the countries above it is kept until you change it.

Your tool input

Tools process text, files, names and passwords on your device. Pasted content and generated results are not submitted to a server. Results remain in the open page until you clear it or close the tab.

Looking up a DOI or ISBN in the citation generators is optional. Your browser sends only that number to Crossref (for a DOI) or Open Library (for an ISBN), without cookies or the page address. That service can see the number and your IP address; the details it returns fill in the form on the page and are not stored by ToolOctopus.

When you choose to send text or a color to another tool, that value is held in this tab's session storage. The next tool removes it on arrival; closing the tab also clears it. A transfer older than one minute is not used. Recent tools and Most used on this device save tool names, visit counts and last-visit times until you clear them from the homepage. Your light or dark theme preference is also saved on this device.

Copied text remains in your clipboard until replaced. Downloaded files stay wherever you save them. Browser extensions, clipboard managers and your device's own history settings operate separately from ToolOctopus.

Copy link puts input values in the part of the address after #. That part is not sent in the page request, but anyone given the full link can read it. Files and generated results are excluded. Password and key tools share settings only. Saved tools store only tool names on this device.

Word and character counters, the notepad, case converters and formatters can save text in this browser only if you turn on draft saving. A saved draft is visible to anyone using this browser profile. Turn draft saving off or choose Delete saved draft to erase it. The citation generators keep your reference list in this browser only if you turn on Keep this list on this device; turning it off or clearing the list erases it. The writing timer does not save a session when you leave.

Links to reference documents take you to other websites with their own privacy rules. Files you download remain wherever you save them.

Contact messages

The contact form sends your report to our contact inbox at Cloudflare: the reason you choose, your name if you give one, your reply address, the summary, the details and any page or source link you add. Cloudflare runs an automatic security check that never asks you to solve anything, and it sees your IP address and browser information while doing so. To stop repeat sending, we keep a scrambled form of your IP address and reply address for two hours, never the addresses themselves.

We keep each report for 12 months, then it is deleted automatically, and a copy goes to a private Discord channel our team reads. We use your reply address only to answer you. To see or delete a report you sent, ask through the same form and we will delete both copies.

Your tool input is never attached to a report. If you paste an example into the form, keep it small and leave out passwords, keys and private text.
