Using Target heart rate calculator
Estimate the AHA target band from an age-predicted maximum heart rate of 220 minus age.
The AHA percentages are general averages for adults, not measured exercise thresholds or a personalized safe maximum. Medication, heart conditions and fitness can change the appropriate target. Ask your clinician about a suitable range when these apply. This tool uses the AHA table age range of 20 to 70 years.
A worked example
For age (years) = 40, activity intensity = Moderate (50 to 70%), lower target (beats per minute) = 90.
