How to turn 8/9 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 8 ÷ 9. 9 does not go into 8, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 8 and divide:
- 80 ÷ 9 = 8, remainder 8 (8 × 9 = 72). Remainder 8 again, the number the division started from, so the digits repeat forever: 0.8888…
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 88.89%.
