How to turn 5/9 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 5 ÷ 9. 9 does not go into 5, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 5 and divide:
- 50 ÷ 9 = 5, remainder 5 (5 × 9 = 45). Remainder 5 again, the number the division started from, so the digits repeat forever: 0.5555…
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 55.56%.
