How to turn 7/8 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 7 ÷ 8. 8 does not go into 7, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 7 and divide:
- 70 ÷ 8 = 8, remainder 6 (8 × 8 = 64)
- Bring down a 0: 60 ÷ 8 = 7, remainder 4 (7 × 8 = 56)
- Bring down a 0: 40 ÷ 8 = 5, remainder 0 (5 × 8 = 40). Remainder 0, so the division ends: 7/8 = 0.875
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 87.5%.
