How to turn 4/9 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 4 ÷ 9. 9 does not go into 4, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 4 and divide:
- 40 ÷ 9 = 4, remainder 4 (4 × 9 = 36). Remainder 4 again, the number the division started from, so the digits repeat forever: 0.4444…
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 44.44%.
