How to turn 1/3 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 1 ÷ 3. 3 does not go into 1, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 1 and divide:
- 10 ÷ 3 = 3, remainder 1 (3 × 3 = 9). Remainder 1 again, the number the division started from, so the digits repeat forever: 0.3333…
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 33.33%.
