How to turn 1/2 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 1 ÷ 2. 2 does not go into 1, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 1 and divide:
- 10 ÷ 2 = 5, remainder 0 (5 × 2 = 10). Remainder 0, so the division ends: 1/2 = 0.5
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 50%.
On a tape measure or a drill set, 1/2 inch is 0.5 inch, 12.7 mm.
