How to turn 1/8 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 1 ÷ 8. 8 does not go into 1, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 1 and divide:
- 10 ÷ 8 = 1, remainder 2 (1 × 8 = 8)
- Bring down a 0: 20 ÷ 8 = 2, remainder 4 (2 × 8 = 16)
- Bring down a 0: 40 ÷ 8 = 5, remainder 0 (5 × 8 = 40). Remainder 0, so the division ends: 1/8 = 0.125
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 12.5%.
