How to turn 1/5 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 1 ÷ 5. 5 does not go into 1, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 1 and divide:
- 10 ÷ 5 = 2, remainder 0 (2 × 5 = 10). Remainder 0, so the division ends: 1/5 = 0.2
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 20%.
