How to turn 1/4 into a decimal
Divide the top number by the bottom one: 1 ÷ 4. 4 does not go into 1, so write 0 and a decimal point, put a 0 after the 1 and divide:
- 10 ÷ 4 = 2, remainder 2 (2 × 4 = 8)
- Bring down a 0: 20 ÷ 4 = 5, remainder 0 (5 × 4 = 20). Remainder 0, so the division ends: 1/4 = 0.25
To read it as a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right: 25%.
