Volume measure

The sample assumes 120 grams per cup only to show the arithmetic. It is not a published value for flour or any other ingredient. Use the same cup measure as your source. For milliliters, enter your ingredient's density in grams per mL. Changing the measure clears the old factor so it cannot silently be reused.

How this conversion works

Cups measure volume and grams measure mass. A conversion needs the ingredient’s mass per cup; packing and ingredient type can change it.

Enter the grams per cup from your package, recipe or scale measurement. This avoids silently treating every ingredient as water.

For milliliters, open More options and choose mL, then enter the ingredient density in grams per mL. A measured density of 1.03 grams per mL would give 103 grams for 100 mL. That is an arithmetic example, not a value assigned to an ingredient.

A worked example

For an ingredient measured at 120 grams per cup, 2 cups × 120 = 240 grams. In the reverse direction, 60 grams ÷ 120 = 0.5 cup.

Before you use the result

No ingredient table or assumed density is used. Cups and mL each require their own entered factor; changing the volume measure clears the previous factor. The same cup size and filling method must apply to both your measured factor and your recipe. Nonzero numeric inputs for these compound calculations are limited to 1e-40 through 1e40.
