Using Projectile motion calculator
Calculate flight time, range and height for a projectile landing at its launch elevation.
Vertical velocity = speed × sin(angle); time = 2vy/g; range = vx × time; height = vy²/(2g). You supply constant downward acceleration. No drag, wind, curvature or unequal launch/landing elevations.
A worked example
Example inputs: launch speed (m/s) = 10, angle above horizontal (degrees) = 30, downward acceleration (m/s²) = 10. Flight time to level ground (s) = 1.
Before you use the result
Vertical velocity = speed × sin(angle); time = 2vy/g; range = vx × time; height = vy²/(2g). You supply constant downward acceleration. No drag, wind, curvature or unequal launch/landing elevations.
Example results for launch speed (m/s)
These examples use Angle above horizontal (degrees): 30; Downward acceleration (m/s²): 10. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
| Launch speed (m/s) | Flight time to level ground (s) |
|---|---|
| 5 | 0.5 |
| 10 | 1 |
| 20 | 2 |
