Using Rack cooling calculator
Heat-removal scenario = (IT kW + other heat kW) × (1 + spare fraction). Convert kW to BTU/hour using the International Table BTU.
Assumes the supplied electrical load becomes heat in the room. The spare percentage is a scenario assumption, not a design recommendation. Envelope loads, airflow, humidity, redundancy, compressor ratings and measured equipment diversity are excluded.
A worked example
For it electrical load (kw) = 10, additional equipment heat (kw) = 2, spare capacity (%) = 20, heat removal scenario (kw) = 14.4.
Before you use the result

Example results for it electrical load (kw)
These examples use Additional equipment heat (kW): 2; Spare capacity (%): 20. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
| IT electrical load (kW) | Heat removal scenario (kW) |
|---|---|
| 5 | 8.4 |
| 10 | 14.4 |
| 20 | 26.4 |
