How this conversion works

Scientific notation moves the decimal point so the coefficient is at least 1 and less than 10 in magnitude. The power of ten records how far it moved.

Engineering notation uses an exponent divisible by 3. This converter moves text digits directly; it does not first round the value to a floating-point number.
