How to edit or remove PDF metadata
Choose the PDF to see what it says about itself: the title shown on browser tabs, the author, subject and keywords, the app the document was written in and the program that made the PDF, and when it was created and last changed. Change any field, or empty it to remove it.
Clear every field empties them all and drops the dates and any other entries, which is worth doing before sending a file to someone who should not see who wrote it or when. The file's XMP copy of these details, which some apps read first, is removed too, so only what you see here is left. The pages are copied as they are.
Worked example
A report saved from Word may say Author: J. Smith and Application: Microsoft Word. Empty both, set the title to Q3 sales report, and browsers that open the PDF show Q3 sales report on the tab.
Before you rely on the result
One PDF of up to 200 MB at a time. Only the document's own details change: text on the pages, comments, form fields and the camera details inside photos stay as they are. A PDF locked with a password has to be unlocked first. Nothing is uploaded.
