Using Camera DORI calculator
Calculate target pixel density and ideal distances for the legacy DORI reference levels or your own density requirement.
Pinhole geometry with constant horizontal field of view. Reference levels follow Axis's April 2026 explanation of IEC 62676-4:2014: 25, 63, 125 and 250 pixels/metre. These are legacy model values, not a claim of compliance with IEC 62676-4:2025. Lighting, compression, motion, lens distortion and recognition performance require a site test. Thermal imaging and automated analytics need different requirements.
A worked example
For horizontal image resolution (pixels) = 1920, horizontal field of view (degrees) = 90, target distance (metres) = 10, custom required density (pixels/metre) = 250, pixel density at target (pixels/metre) = 96.

Example results for horizontal image resolution (pixels)
These examples use Horizontal field of view (degrees): 90; Target distance (metres): 10; Custom required density (pixels/metre): 250. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
| Horizontal image resolution (pixels) | Pixel density at target (pixels/metre) |
|---|---|
| 960 | 48 |
| 1920 | 96 |
| 3840 | 192 |
