Using Display viewing angle calculator
Calculate the horizontal angle a flat screen fills: angle = 2 atan(width/(2 × distance)).
Distance is perpendicular from the screen center to the observer; units must match. This gives geometry, not a recommended viewing distance or visual-acuity assessment.
A worked example
Example inputs: image width = 2, perpendicular viewing distance = 1. Horizontal viewing angle (degrees) = 90.
Before you use the result
Distance is perpendicular from the screen center to the observer; units must match. This gives geometry, not a recommended viewing distance or visual-acuity assessment.
Example results for image width
These examples use Perpendicular viewing distance: 1. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
| Image width | Horizontal viewing angle (degrees) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 53.1301023542 |
| 2 | 90 |
| 4 | 126.869897646 |
