Precision and calculation record

Rounding changes displayed numbers, not the calculation. Text, fractions, matrices and CSV schedules keep their own formatting. Automatic keeps up to 12 significant digits, with money shown to cents where applicable.

Saved scenario

Save the current answer, then change an input to compare. This clears when you leave.

Formula and assumptions

Mass per horizontal area equals depth times density; pressure uses standard gravity 9.80665 m/s squared. The example density is an editable scenario, not a snow-type default. This is not a design roof snow load, structural capacity check or snow-removal instruction. Drifts, ice, uneven loading and roof geometry need a qualified assessment; this result cannot establish roof safety.

Automatic precision shows numbers to 12 significant digits. Thousands separators such as 1,000 are accepted; use a dot for decimals.

Scratch calculator

Use +, −, ×, ÷, parentheses and %. A percentage is divided by 100. This does not change the main tool.

Reset reloads the tool with its starting values and releases open files and device controls. Saved drafts stay on this device until you delete them.

A worked example

For measured snow depth (metres) = 0.2, measured snow bulk density (kg / cubic metre) = 200, horizontal roof area covered (square metres) = 100, snow mass per area (kg/square metre) = 40.

Example results for measured snow depth (metres)

These examples use Measured snow bulk density (kg / cubic metre): 200; Horizontal roof area covered (square metres): 100. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
