How to build an MLA works cited page with a generator
Generate the entry for each source, then assemble and format the list in your document. The MLA tool prepares one source at a time.
Make each entry from the source itself
Choose Book, Website or Journal article, then enter the details shown on that source. A journal article needs its own title and its journal title; these are separate fields.
Keep a list of the sources you actually cite. A reference generator cannot determine whether a source belongs in your assignment or whether a quotation matches it.
Check the list as a whole
Copy each reference into the works cited list and apply the ordering required by your assignment or style guide. This tool does not sort a whole bibliography or handle repeated-author conventions across entries.
Plain-text copying leaves document formatting to you. Check the heading, indentation, spacing and italics in the finished document instead of treating pasted text as a formatted page.
Match the in-text citation to the entry
Use the same source details for the in-text citation and the reference entry. Add a page number or other locator when your quotation and instructions require it. The generator has no quotation-locator input.
