MAC address inspector explained
Normalize a 48-bit MAC address and inspect its group and locally administered bits. The tool accepts colon, hyphen, Cisco dotted and compact forms without contacting an address database.
A worked example
02:1a:2b:3c:4d:5e is locally administered and unicast because of the low bits in its first byte. Normalization changes letter case and separators only.
Before you use the result
Does not identify a device, vendor or owner. Randomized addresses and spoofing limit what any MAC address can establish. EUI-64 values are not accepted.
