Using Ham size calculator
Estimate a ham shopping-weight range from USDA serving guidance and your number of servings.
USDA gives 1/4 to 1/3 pound per boneless serving and 1/3 to 1/2 pound per bone-in serving. Add desired leftover servings separately. Appetites, side dishes and the exact product change what you need; this is a portion-planning range, not a cooking time or temperature calculation.
A worked example
For number of servings = 12, ham type = Boneless, extra servings for leftovers = 0, upper shopping estimate (lb) = 4.
