File checksum calculator explained
Choose a local file to hash its exact bytes with SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512. An optional expected digest is compared after removing whitespace, making it easy to check a publisher’s checksum.
A worked example
The three bytes for abc have SHA-256 ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad. A trailing newline changes the bytes and therefore changes the digest.
Before you use the result
A matching hash establishes equality with the expected digest, not that the file or publisher is trustworthy. The expected hash must come from a trusted source. Files stay on this device. This tool loads one file into memory, with a 100 MiB limit.
