Prepare an EPUB reading copy
The container identifies the package document. Its spine sets the reading order, which can differ from file-name order.
Chapter text, headings, lists and tables become a local Markdown reading copy. A separate JSON index records chapter order and original paths.
A worked example
The example book lists chapter-two.xhtml before chapter-one.xhtml in its archive. Its spine places First chapter before Second chapter, so the reading copy follows that order.
Before you use the result
Unencrypted EPUB 2 or 3 with XHTML reading-order items. No DRM, scripts, images, audio, video, fonts, fixed-layout reproduction, remote resources or non-linear spine items. Maximum 10 MB compressed, 32 MB expanded, 256 ZIP entries and 100 linear chapters. DTDs and custom XML entities are refused. This is a text reading copy, not a complete EPUB renderer.
