Using Download time calculator
Estimate transfer time = file size in megabits ÷ effective megabits per second.
MB uses 1,000,000 bytes and Mbps uses 1,000,000 bits/second; a byte has 8 bits. Efficiency is your assumption. Excludes latency, startup, changing throughput and protocol-specific behavior.
A worked example
Example inputs: file size (decimal mb) = 1000, link speed (mbps) = 100, achievable share of link speed (%) = 80. Transfer time (seconds) = 100.

Example results for file size (decimal mb)
These examples use Link speed (Mbps): 100; Achievable share of link speed (%): 80. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.
| File size (decimal MB) | Transfer time (seconds) |
|---|---|
| 500 | 50 |
| 1000 | 100 |
| 2000 | 200 |
