Using CSV Excel converter
CSV becomes text cells, preserving leading zeros and formula-looking text. Reading XLSX exports the selected sheet. Formulas are shown as formula text with cached results; they are never recalculated. Dates become ISO timestamps; formatting and merged-cell layout are lost. CSV export puts an apostrophe before text that starts with =, +, - or @, so a spreadsheet does not run it as a formula; numbers are written as they are.
A worked example
The example CSV has Name and Count columns and an Octopus,8 row. XLSX stores both CSV values as text, including 8.
