Precision and calculation record

Rounding changes displayed numbers, not the calculation. Text, fractions, matrices and CSV schedules keep their own formatting. Automatic keeps up to 12 significant digits, with money shown to cents where applicable.

Formula and assumptions

Natural Earth 1:110 million, version 5.1.1: 177 coarse country/area features with de facto boundaries. Small states and islands are absent or simplified. Each outline is centered in a Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection with one shared scale; it is not independently resized. Area ratios use spherical polygon area, not official administrative land-area statistics. This is a dated map dataset, not a claim about current sovereignty or borders.

Automatic precision shows numbers to 12 significant digits. Thousands separators such as 1,000 are accepted; use a dot for decimals.

Same area scale. Shapes are centered separately; coastlines are simplified.

Reset reloads the tool with its starting values and releases open files and device controls. Saved drafts stay on this device until you delete them.

A worked example

On the same equal-area scale, the supplied United States outline has about 4.3358 times the polygon area of the Greenland outline. This compares these simplified map shapes, not official land-area statistics.
