Using Average rate of change calculator
Average rate of change = (second y − first y) ÷ (second x − first x).
This is the secant slope over your two points. It is not necessarily the instantaneous derivative anywhere you choose inside the interval.
A worked example
With first x = 1, second x = 5, first y = 3, second y = 11, the average rate of change is 2.
Before you use the result
This is the secant slope over your two points. It is not necessarily the instantaneous derivative anywhere you choose inside the interval.
Example results for first x
These examples use Second x: 5; First y: 3; Second y: 11. They are reference calculations, not recommended settings.

|---|---|
| 0.5 | 1.77777777778 |
